I did not get to ride in one of these peddle cabs, but the rest of the group did, they said it was aweome.

Jersey the little boy with Nikki, is part of a large sibling group. His mom couldn't take care of them so they are being taken care of at Asilo, the baby will go back to the mother in a few months, but not he or his older siblings.

These teo men are foster dad's, they sang us a few Christmas carols, they were rock stars!

Today is the first day we have internet

So I am behind on posting, we have been staying in Dumegette and they had no internet access there. I am behind on my adventures, and answering the emails from Erin's class. I will post one last LARGE post when I get back to the US and have internet again.
I have had a great time, meet a lot of people and made friends with everyone on the trip! I loved meeting the children and teens (some were even older than me). It was an adventure I will never forget, people and a place I won't forget either.
I wish everyone could do something like this- to see the places, meet the kids in such need and bring joy to them in a small way is amazing...
I am off to the airport for the 24+ hour trip home, thanks to all of you for helping make this possible for me.

Thanks for the information. We are enjoying reading about your trip and your pictures too. We have also been looking at other things about where you are. A few more questions today if you don't mind.....they could easily give you 25 a day, but I wouldn't do that to you.....

#1. (from Megan) Are you still a little jet lagged from you trip?? Yeah I am Megan, and I will be more, cause today we leave for the US. We have been traveling from place to place on planes and boats, so it has been hard to get caught up on your sleep. I feel like I wanna sleep for a whole day!

#2 (from Tonasia) I was wondering how the weather is there....it has been raining a lot here. Tonasia, it has been HOT and humid here. We have been wearing shorts and capris the entire time.

#3. (from Austin) How many kids are there in each place? Austin, each place has a lot of kids, some of the places we went have over 100 kids, and some have 30 or 40. When I come to your class I will show you pictures, we went to a lot of place, and saw some many CUTE kids!

#4. (from Kiera) Are you having fun? Kiera, I am having a lot of fun! The kids and teenagers love to see us, and we are giving them Christmas presents, teddy bears and candy, one of the members of our team Jay, even takes there picture with a polaroid camera so they can keep it. They love it and so do we.

#5. (from Joel) What kind of food do the kids like to eat? Do they only eat rice and soy sauce? :) The kids around here LOVE JollyBee's, I have pictures of it, it is the Philippines McDonalds. They have spagetti and friend chicken as their meal there. They also eat a lot of fruits and veggies at their places. They eat well and aren't hungry, the people they live with take good care of them. We can talk about it when I come to your class, ok? I even have pictures of the food.

#1. (from Kendal) Were all of the kids that you are seeing born in the Philippines? - Most of them are, I believe we have seen maybe 8 kids that weren't.

#2. (from Cale) Is it hard to understand everyone when they talk? - Cale.. It is hard at times, most of them speak English so it is good.. Also we have a translator which makes it easier!

#3. (from Aubre) Are you going to get to go to the beach?- The resort I am staying at has a beach, and I may go there today if i have time!

#4. (from Tanner) Did the kids that climbed the fence because they wanted to go to the party get to go?? - Yes, most of them got to join the party, but some of them got sent out. It was very different than anything in America.

Today was nice, we flew from Manila to Cebu. And when we got to our hotel, The Plantation Bay Jessi Nikki and I all went and got a full body massage, which was amazing. After that we went to a party, it was interesting. They roasted a pig for us. It was amazing how the kids really wanted to learn our names, and our ages. All of the 10-12 year olds told me I looked like Avril Lavine, we all laughed. They actually called Nikki TALL!! Well yeah!
So i will let you know more later.

December 4 & 5 (morning)

We have had a great trip so far we visited a lot of day care kids today, saw the daycare buildings, got a tour of one. Danced with JollyBee, played with lots of kids, saw how sad some of the street kids are, and how they are so hungry and wanted to be such a part of the parties they climbed the fence to get in, that was really sad. We then went to another party for foster parents and kids and saw the independent living scholars who are Nikki and my age and older who were abandoned when they were younger but they stuck with school and believe in themselves and are making a better life for themselves through KBF. Some of them just got back from Chicago, IL going to school there. It was fun to talk to them.
Nikk and I brought duck,duck,goose to the Philippines as well, we had to have the day care kids teacher translate it for us, then we must not have explained it right or something, cause it wasn't really duck, duck, goose, but they had fun and so did we.
Last night we went to the outdoor mall again, I got a few more presents for people, and it wasn't nearly as crowded. We had fun though.
We left Manila today to go to Cebu, we are here at the Plantation Bay Resort, it is really nice, and we are enjoying it a lot...Nikki, Jessi and I have plans for the next few hours before we got to the party today at Asilo de la Milagrosa. I'll tell you more later about what we did.

Day 2

Yesterday was a great day. We went to the Bethany House, which is an orphanage. I feel in love with so many of the kids. My favorite's name was Anthony, he is being adopted to a family in Spain he leave soon for his new home- I think in a couple of weeks. He was adorable. We also went to the Single Mother's home. It was a reality check. There was a young lady in there that was 15, the same as Nikki and me . All of the ladies in there were very nice, and we bought some nifty stuff from them!!

Well I have to go eat!!

Day 1

Yesterday was the first official day in the Philippines. It was a pretty relaxed day. We did a little shopping, and rode this super cool thing called a Jeepeeney. We got treating like royalty, they didn't let any locals get on with us 6 Americans got the jeepeeney all to our self. After that we rode a taxi to a restaurant. It's Korea all over, all I ate was rice and soy sauce... The good thing about that place Nikki, Jan, Nancy and I all got stuffed animals for being cute. hehe.. well today should be fun. We are going to an unwed mothers shelter, and a baby home. it should be pretty awesome!!

The plane ride was a killer.. It was 19 hours long total. Crazy.. But everything went smooth so far. It is 3:00am on Sunday right now and at home its 11:01AM on Saturday. Today is a lazy day, we are going site seeing and shopping. It's really humid and muggy right now. Well I will fill you in more later!! Have a great Civil War Saturday... (Someone tell me how it goes!?!)

Well.. I am leaving in 2 days, and I am pretty pumped... Getting to go to the Philippine's this winter is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am going to be spending this time while I am gone bring Christmas to the orphanages in the Philippine's. I will be updating my blog everyday of my trip, I will be up for answering questions, and whatnot so ask me some questions. So have fun in the cold, I will be enjoying the heat!

Many of you have asked, what you can do to be a part of this years gift team, and I thank you in advance for your kindness and support of this trip and the children we will be blessed to see and help. Below is a little info about this trip, and suggested items for us to take from the US. Please let Lynlee or myself know if you would like to donate any items for us to take on this trip.

This trip is designed to visit Holt supported services in the Philippines. We will see programs and services operated by Holt’s partner Kaisahang Buhay Foundation (KBF )and programs KBF provides technical assistance to. Holt has partnered in the Philippines with KBF for 31 years!

At each of the programs we will visit a Christmas party will be held for the children or participants receiving the services.

Some ideas for gifts for us to bring –
• Chocolates for staff at child care centers or KBF (Bags of Hershey’s kisses are great)
• Supplies for Cross Stitch (thread, fabric)
• Supplies for making beaded jewelry
• T-shirts for Independent Living Home Students
There are 16 students - sizes small & medium, they like shirts with graphics and or logos

We will be blessed to see the following:
• Foster care
• Child care centers
• Single mothers home

• Day care for at-risk children

I am so excited I am going to the Philippines to bring Christmas to the children on Holt Internationals care. The trip is going to be so different than last years trip to Korea, but I am so excited to see this program and to help the children there.

Today we are leaving, catching our flight and coming home! Yesterday we went to a Royal Palace.. it was pretty cool. Paul Kim gave us a tour, he did a spended job!! But today we come home, i dont want to leave, but i want to see everyone and eat american food!! This trip has changed my life, it was amazing! Thanks to everyone that helped me make this possible! Well have a good Friday, cause its saturday here! i am going to go do my "Last minute shopping" so yay! =]

Friday in Korea

Wow.. it is already our last full day! It is weird how this trip has gone by so fast! I am excited to get home, but i dont want to leave the kids.

Hola Erin class.. i am answering your questions now! Very glad to hear from you... So far i have met hundreds of kids, and the weather is cold, mostly dry but yesturday we had rain, and i have been mostly eating rice, or food from the American Resturants. There is a McDonalds RIGHT by my hotel, as well as a Burger King, Outback, KFC Dunkin Doughnuts, Starbucks, that are less than a block away. Keep Thinking of questions, i am very glad to hear from you!! IT is 2:45pm there on Thursday, and it is 7:40am here, on Friday morning! I thought that was kinda cool.

Today was all about the kids.. it was a blast.. We first rode the "bullet train" to JengJue. We went to lunch at an authentic Korean restraunt it was ok.. i dont quite like the food there so all i ate was rice. But we also went to a "Mart" kinda like 7 eleven and got all the kids candies and misc. stuff like that, when we first got to the Baby home I was in shock of how many kids there where and what ages they ranged from. It was amazing, just getting to hold all the kids, and interact with them. The youngest there was there was 5&6 DAY old infants, to the oldest kid who was 5 years old. It was amzing to see how that the kids care for eachother and how that the older kids will pick up the younger when they were sad. Just knowing that they care about their youngs that much to try to comfort them.. Just seeing how that these kids live with hardly anything compaired to us, and whenever they get something, they feel spoiled and when we get something we take it for granted and dont relize what these kids would to do get half of what we do..

I cant believe that tomorrow is our last day here, and we are going on tours and going shopping... I will miss it here, but i will be even more excited to get home and see everyone!!

Today we are going to the Jeongju baby home.. It is the primary care facility for the children in the central part of Korea. There are appx. 60 children there, ranging from infants to six years old. We are going to to bring differnt types of things for the children. Blanket, baby clothes, gummy worms and toys are just some of the items. I am tre exctited because the whole time we are there we are playing with Babies. Nikki (the other 14 yr old here) and I can not wait!!

Like I said on yesterday's post, it was amazing, it seriously changed my life. Going to The Holt Ilsan Center. That is the home for the disabled people. There were anywhere from infants to mid 70's. Just seeing there faces light up with joy when you gave them a chirtsmas present was amazing. We may say in the states that we have nothing, but you have the world compaired to these people. They have been at Ilsan there whole life, and they will proablly never be adopted. So yeah...
Well i have to go get ready!! Have a good day!!

So how I can post some pics of our great trip. Today we went to Ilsan, it is a place for people from 0-50+ live that have a lot of disabilities. It was great we had a party for them, gave them gifts and had a good time. I have some pictures of today, that I am posting.
I am still not really liking the foos- but I did try Kimche for breakfast on the first day- did not love it!
The first day we were here we went to the Holt Korea office, learned about what they do here and held babies... we also rode the bullet train- it was fast- like 170 mph. Super cool, there was a mall right in teh train station. We also went to an unwed mothers home ran by Holt, it is cool that they help girls when they have noone else. There were ladies there from 16 to 35. We got a tour of where they live and also some of the things they make- they gave us a key chain they made.
Today we went shopping too, I got a few presents, and it was fun, Kim & Skip took us for dinner out Outback- YES theer is an Outback in Korea, though it was spicy compared to at home.

so.. we made it here, and it's pretty fun! There's alot of differnt things here, but it is alot like New York on steriods... yeah! Well i miss everyone!! HEHEHE... As we all think about sitting down to eat a big meal with our friends and family this Thanksgiving, I think about my trip coming up in 9 days.
I know I am going to see things that I cant even imagine right now, children waiting for mommies and daddies, some might be hungry, all will be scared I am sure. Here is a picture of a place we might visit. This is different than what my room looked like when I was a baby and growing up.

It is getting closer and closer to the day we all get on the airplane- I am tre tre excited for the trip. I am getting closer to getting all my money collected- I think my mom said I have about $700 left. So if you still want to help out, email my mom, and she'll give you the information.

When it comes time to celebrate Christmas at Holt-Korea’s Ilsan Center, the residents are ready to party. All year long children of all ages make gifts and practice songs, and skits as they prepare to entertain their special guests—you. Most of all they enjoy the moments of personal attention you bring them—a special hug, the prayer just for them. At Ilsan, you can tour the grounds and cottages and learn more about the history of Holt’s work there. You’ll also host a party at the Jeonju Baby Home, visit the Salvation Army’s shelter for unwed mothers, and host a lunch for foster mothers—all while experiencing the culture, cuisine and special beauty of the Korean people.

Less than a month till we go

I can not believe it is less than a month till we get on the plane and head for Korea. I am tre excited to go.
I am really busy with basketball, Jon's still got football and I am still trying to raise about $900 to go on this trip- so you could say I am going to be busy until we leave.

Mon Dec. 04 Arrive in Incheon (ICN), the Republic of Korea / Check-in at Hotel

Tue Dec. 05 Tour Holt Office in Seoul / Foster Mother Lunch / Tour Holt

Wed Dec. 06 Visit Holt Ilsan Center / Host Christmas Party for Residents

Thu Dec. 07 Visit Jeonju Baby Home / Host Party for Children

Fri Dec. 08 Shopping / Tour Seoul / Farewell Dinner at the Korea House

Sat Dec. 09 Depart Korea (ICN) for the United States
